Retinal tears
Retinal tear treatment
A retinal tear is a break in the retina that can lead to a detachment if untreated. Tears often announce themselves with new flashes and floaters, and sealing one promptly can prevent a detachment.
This condition can be an emergency
Symptoms
New floaters, flashes of light, or a sudden increase in the number of floaters. Retinal tears can lead to retinal detachment if not treated promptly.
Treatment
Most retinal tears are treated in the office with laser photocoagulation or cryotherapy, which creates a seal around the tear and prevents fluid from passing beneath the retina. Treatment typically takes only a few minutes.
Why Dr. Maisel for retinal tears
Dr. Maisel evaluates new flashes and floaters promptly and treats retinal tears the same day whenever possible. Early laser treatment can prevent the need for surgery later.
